Fabrication of Pressure Test Stand Pin Holder
During my coop at MKS Instruments, Inc., there was a need for a pin holder that steel pins which aided in sealing the testing equipment could go for easy use. I was tasked with the design and fabrication of it.
Identifying Project Constraints

- The pin holder must include 18 pin holes, have a maximum length of 6 inches to meet stock purchasing criteria, and have the functionality to screw to a table top or stick to a metal surface. The image on the left is my final personal design, created in SolidWorks
- I decided to use magnets on one side to fulfill the mounting constraint. Calculations for the mounting force of the magnets proved critical in determining the amount and type of magnets to purchase from supplier specifications.

CNC Manufacturing
After finalizing the design, I used the built-in CAM tool in SolidWorks to construct optimized G-Code to feed into the CNC machine. This image shows the final product after manufacturing. The silver discs are the magnets for mounting on vertical metallic walls.
